Enjoy the quietness and the tranquillity of the franconian forest. A guidance tour through the museum of the castle Lauenstein, a view from the outlook tower "Thuringia Warte" or a visit of the chocolate manufactory Lauenstein. Allow yourself the enjoy the beautiful view from the castle hotel towards the Loquitz valley. Lauenstein lies in the northest part of Bavaria in Upper Franconia and is the ideal starting point for hikings on the Rennsteig (a big place where you can hike), for exursions to the Saaletalsperren (Saale valley barricades), the Feengrotten (fairy grottos) in the Saalfeld, the Goethe- and Schiller town Weimar or the bavarian state bath Bad Steben. Also recommendable for our guests are the towns in Bavaria and Thuringia such as Bayreuth with the Wagner festival plays, Bamberg (World Heritage Site), Oberhof for winter athletics, the capital city of the beer trademark Kulmbach, Coburg and its ducal castles as well the Lucas-Cranach-town Kronach with the fortress Rosenberg, just to mention a couple of examples (you'll find further tips under "surrounding").
